Air Conditioner Write For Us – Air conditioning is a refrigeration system used to cool the environment of homes and premises. We show you everything you need to select the air conditioning unit that best suits you.
How does the air conditioning work?
Air conditioning systems do not introduce cold air into the house but extract heat from the air in the room and expel it to the outside, thanks to a heat pump. This heat removal process is known as the refrigeration cycle and works as follows:
Amid the indoor and outdoor units, there is a copper circuit with a refrigerant gas that goes through different states (liquid and gas), absorbing or releasing heat into the air. Currently, the most widely used refrigerant is R32 gas.
Evaporator
The indoor unit collects the hot air from the room. This air comes into contact with the air conditioning evaporator, which contains the refrigerant liquid at low temperatures. Upon contact, the hot air gives up heat to the refrigerant fluid.
The air cools and is returned to the room using a fan. The fluid heats up, evaporates (becomes a gas), and is directed to another part of the circuit to be able to be cooled again and repeat the same process.
Compressor
The hot gas reaches the compressor, where the pressure is increased to raise its temperature much higher.
Condenser
The gas leaves the compressor very hot and reaches this area, where heat exchange with the outside air occurs. The gas gives up the heat to the outside air, so the gas cools down and becomes a liquid.
Expansion valve
The refrigerant reaches a low temperature but is not yet high enough to scope the indoor unit and absorb heat from the room air. That is why the expansion valve drastically decreases its pressure and temperature. In this way, the coolant is at the perfect temperature to return to the beginning of the process.
For all this to be possible, a thermostat must measure the temperature and give orders to the electronic board containing the indoor or split air conditioning unit.
Types of air conditioning
Before installing an air conditioner, we must know what types exist and which is the most suitable for our home. Presently, there is a wide variety of devices to choose from depending on whether we need it for a home or for a local:
Air conditioners for homes
Split air conditioning
It is the most elementary type of air conditioning with a simple installation. Therefore, it is the most widely used today.
Split air conditioning takes its name from English (split = divide) since it is a system divided into two parts: a unit placed inside the home and an exterior unit usually installed on the façade.
The lower part is the one that absorbs the hot air from the room to calm it, while the outdoor unit is the one that expels hot air to the street.
Within the splits, we can discuss two types according to their size: normal-length appliances and small air conditioning models for small-sized rooms. If you want to see how much air conditioning power a small room needs, we will teach you how to calculate how many figures per m 2 you need.
Multi-split air conditioning
It works the same as split air conditioning but has several indoor units spread over different rooms and a single outdoor unit. It can be a 2×1 (double split), 3×1, or even 5×1 air conditioning.
Multi-split air conditioning is usually used in homes where you want to air-condition some of the rooms in addition to the living room. The advantage of this system is that noise is reduced since only one compressor is necessary for several splits.
Ducted air conditioning
Ducted air conditioning only needs an outdoor unit that performs the entire process and directs the cold air to the different rooms through a false ceiling through which the ducts go. At the end of each duct, there are some grilles through which the low-temperature air comes out.
The fact that a false ceiling and ducts have to be installed makes it necessary to carry out work, so this air conditioning system is more suitable for renovations or new homes.
Fan coil air conditioning
Fan coils are water-air units with heat exchangers, fans, and filters. These must receive hot or cold water from a generator such as a gas boiler or an aerothermal system.
The cold water reaches the appliance and, through the heat exchanger, gives the cold to the surrounding air and then expels it into the environment using a fan.
Portable air conditioning
It works just like a standard air conditioner, but it only has one indoor unit instead of an outside unit and an indoor unit.
The good thing about moveable air conditioners is that you don’t have to drill a hole in the wall to connect both units like a split air conditioner. But you need a tube that fits into a window to get the hot air outside. This makes installation much more accessible.
If the good part is that it is the only air conditioner without professional installation, the bad part is that they usually have less power, so it is problematic for them to cool the air more. In addition, they require a somewhat higher consumption than split and take up space inside the home.
solar air conditioning
Any type of air conditioning whose energy source comes from solar panels is known as solar air conditioning. This allows bills to be reduced considerably and clean, renewable energy to be used. The only drawback is the high initial investment since it is not cheap equipment.
